John E. McMurry received his B.A. from Harvard University and his Ph.D. at Columbia University. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and an Alfred P. If you have to use this textbook, I'd recommend getting the Klein Organic Chemistry textbook too. I often would use the Klein textbook to help me solve problems in McMurry because I think the information is organized a bit better in Klein. I really hate that McMurry doesn't use line drawings for long carbon chains, but that's my personal preference.

Important information for the access card: if your professor is using Cengage through Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas, Desire 2 Learn, or your school's learning management system, then this access card will work. BUT, if your professor is using Cengage through the Cengage website, this access card will not work. I unfortunately bought this access card and book package thinking that it would work and it didn't in my case, so ask your professor before to avoid this.

I have been a university professor for over 30 years. I bought the first edition of McMurry's Organic Chemistry and loved it. It has become thicker and it has many more pages than that first edition, but of course it covers many more topics. This book has been my personal favorite over the years. Other OC textbooks that I like are Fox and Whitesell's and Bruice's. The one I don't particularly care for is Vollhardt's: too much stuff crammed in the book and a writing style that doesn't make it very easy for students to follow. It's fine as a reference, but in my opinion it's not that great for those who have to study directly from the book. But of course you may disagree with me! At any rate, I think that McMurry's OC is a fantastic book. Period.

This is such a wonderful and very helpful tool for doing well in organic chemistry as it helped me a lot when I took two semesters of organic chemistry, as well as did the solutions manual for the textbook and do purchase the textbook and solutions manual together as both are a must in order to be successful in organic I and II! There were a few instances within certain chapters of the text that could have been just a bit more specific while providing just a little bit more detail, is my only other feedback and/or comment that I would like to add on and point out. Thank you so much for this wonderful resource along with the solutions manual that goes with this textbook!

This book was required for my organic chemistry class. I thought it was okay for the course. I also had bought Wade organic chemistry book. With those two books and the Second Language books, I finished with an A.

Pretty good book. Do the practice problems!! Some things aren't explained as much as I'd like around chapters 6-8, so you can't really do some of those practice problems because you don't know what they're talking about.

Great way to purchase books for college at a rental cost.

This book really explained the information in a way as to give understanding.

This booklet clearly was not proof-read by anyone. Grammatical mistakes on every page and it doesn't have a logical order to it.The claim that you can hold your breath for over five minutes in two days is laughable.The author stresses the importance of having a partner nearby when you train but never gets into what your partner (and you when the roles are reversed) should do in an emergency. Not a single word.The author says that if you are not pleased with the book that you should seek a full refund from amazon. LOL yeah, I'll just click on the ebook full refund button on here.There is a three part video on youtube that is way better than this book, and it's free.

I appreciated the shortness and conciseness of the text. It's not full of fluff or philosophical ramblings. It's not very technical. It's a short, clear and concise description of the basics of breath hold development with some useful and easy exercises easily executed by beginners. It also contains a very simple introduction to basic freediving. It contains nearly nothing on safety process or protocols.The sort of stuff contained in the text is largely available on the web, piecemeal, for free. This book (Kindle version) contains most of the easy stuff in one simple cheap location, making it a useful resource.It's worth noting that beginning freediving is more about technique in the water (both physical and mental) than breath holding-- a 65' dive last only about 40 seconds-- no real need for a five minute hold. However, knowing you can hold for far longer helps, somewhat, to decrease anxiety in the water.Be sure to look elsewhere for safety instruction, ideally, take a class.I like it for what it is. 4 stars instead of 5 just because it's not THAT well written/edited, and the production quality is a little low. Quite useful, though.

Okay ... here it is . Oskar Varg has published a few books in his time ... I was really getting into the free diving vibe and decided to download as much info on my kindle as possible when I discovered that every book that Varg produced was identical to the others he published except with other titles so as to sell more . This is dishonest . Basically the books while containing some good exercises are very barren and much of the tables and excercise's have been sourced from websites !. He obviously has not acquired much personal experience or he would have more to write and contribute .I am angry and wonder how amazon allows guys to do this . three books identical almost ( freediving essentials and spearfishing essentials differ only cause he adds a speargun in the sentence every now and then !! ) . Oskar Varg needs some lessons in life .

Great book! A wonderful resource for painting animals, insects, plants, flowers, buildings, people, landscape elements, etc.

I love this book! I first saw this book in a painting class I took. The book has everything you need as a beginner in Chinese brush painting. Stroke instructions for many plants and animals with helpful tidbits. I find this medium more challenging than acrylics so I needed this book. To each their own. The book is both hard cover and spiral bound inside so it stays open to the example while you’re working. Pages are thick to withstand much use. I’ve included a photo of the table of contents. Highly recommend!

i am an occasional painter and wanted a more disciplined approach to learning so i got this book. i have read through the pages before the motif exercises. now i have started on the motifs - the four gentlemen. the instructions for the bamboo include painting in ink and in colour. i consider the instructions brief and sufficient, and have immediately helped me paint the bamboo in the 'proper way' in terms of brush strokes. i didn't have chinese ink, only used black poster colour so the colour isn't so vibrant. but good to practise and learn the brush strokes. i highly recommend this book for beginners.

When I was growing up, I had inherited a book from my grandmother, and an inkstone. The book showed all the motifs of Chinese art, and all the writing was in Chinese, but you knew it was a step by step instruction. My favorite pictures to copy with my crayons and pencils back then were the mountain scenes, and those beautiful scenes of karst mountains with rivers flowing between them have haunted my dreams. Sadly I lost this book when I was in college. When I was in Japan this year, I found an inkstone set, and I wanted to get something like my grandmother's book. HEre was the answer, only this time in English, so i could understand everything.There is so much material to work with!I have used this book with my traditional materials (ink & inkstone, brush), and I also have used Akashiya brush-pens from Japan and Akashiya Sai brush-markers. The latter two things I have only found in Japan but they are very helpful for practicing the strokes without using up precious ink.

I've been doing CBP for years and have a number of books. If you can only have one I'd say this is the one to have just to enjoy the relaxation of Chinese Brush Painting. Well organized. The pictures are great and it is well written! I'll have to tell my CBP teacher about it. I learned about it from a friend who brought her little girl over to do some CBP with me and she had this book. She was only 10 but doing just what the book told her and showed her to do and making nice rice paper painting. I mounted a couple for her so they could then mount her best paintings on their own. Great book for any age!

I have 2 of these books because I used the first one in an art calss and it was so loved that it became well loved and a bit frazzled, so I was delighted to find a source to get another. The colors are crisp and clear and even a novice can make the images. I had never "brush painted"before. I made several pieces from the easily interpreted instructions and they were so well done that I could sell tehm to make money to buy more supplies for my art class of teenagers at a local youth center. My friend had them professionally framed! I really was impressed thatteenagers loved this book so that they would come in daily just to draw a different animal, vegetable or flower in the "style". They enjoyed this more than the "tattoo" images they like so much. I have also applied the technique in my silk painting class. The ladies of all ages flocked to buy this book. I have many books on the Chinese Brush painting techniques and this is the most diverse, lovely and neccessary one I own. It is a true bargain. Artists in acrylic, oil and watecolr have also "HAD TO HAVE this book!

This has the most variety of different animals and flowers in it that I've seen in the dozens of brush painting books I've looked at. It's a good reference for both copying to learn, practice and inspiration. It may not be a strictly traditional approach, but there is no doubt that the examples are beautiful, strokes clearly shown, colors are suggested and the paintings retain a Chinese art style.

This is a Small! and very handy book: it is about 6" x 6" and this hard cover edition comes with a spiral spine. It is Very comprehensive. Each page gives a short demo how to accomplish a painting, with the color ink to use, done in this artist's particular style. I only have a very few books, but I chose to pick this one after my teacher showed the class this one (she brings in books from her vast collection Every Week; I've bought only a couple that inspired me, this was one. I've been in class for 6 years...)
