This is a wonderful retelling of the Persephone myth. It's rich, layered, and filled with depth. Eris has taken the time to really color in the story that everyone knows the outline to, and really bring it to life. All her life, Persephone has been hidden away from all the gods on Olympos by her mother, so that she would stay a maiden. Persephone made sure that didn't matter, even if it wasn't with a god. Hades has spent his life in the dark Underworld, alone. Neither one of them is happy what trysts they manage to have with mortals, and each wants more. When Aphrodite forces Hades to steal Persephone, they both find the person they were looking for.Persephone is my favorite myth, and I love Eris' retelling of it. I will have to read and reread it.

This book was fantastic! The story has been told a hundred different ways, a hundred different times, but Adderly creates a fresh new telling of the tale of Persephone and Hades. A God who needs control, a Goddess straining within the confines of her safe, sheltered life, and the machinations of the Olympians around them that conspire both for and against them.Hades may be the ruler of the Underworld, but he's not a cold, unfeeling monster. Rather he's hot as molten lava, as devastating as an earthquake, and with a rigid sense of duty only rivaled in austerity by the stone he controls. Persephone isn't some meek, delicate flower, either. She's strong in her own right, not only able to withstand the desires of the God she finds herself with, but against the very Olympians who would bring her to heel. Making her own decisions, finding her own path in the twists and turns of eternity, creates a balance within her as much as it does without.

Looks can be deceiving. Terribly deceiving. Especially when you are the Lord of the Underworld, and when Fate drops someone incredible, someone who you never dreamed you’d meet into your existence, you will do everything in your power (and draw on some powers that few know exist) to insure that those looks are viewed in an entirely different way than first perceptions may provide. The Eight House by Eris Adderly is listed and a Fairy Tale and Mythology and Lore, and while it is a retelling of the Greek mythological tale of Hades and Persephone, it should not be taken as solely that alone. This is an incredibly rich and powerful love story that easily stands on its own even without the mythological background. The Hades character is someone who knows what he is looking for in a partner, and will not compromise simply for the whims of others. Persephone is equally of the same mind, if not more so. She defies her mother, and suitors which pursue her, because she has her own concept of who she wants in a lover and partner, and she will not be railroaded into choosing someone just to meet arbitrary norms, be they god-driven or not. These two strong-willed people (and the reader can easily do away with the entire ‘gods’ conceit in this novel, despite the god-like powers they may exhibit, because at its core this is a novel about people) are brought together by circumstances that neither chooses of their own free will. When those circumstances force them to deal with each other, they come to the realization that the very things that each have sought are suddenly there before them, even though the dichotomy of their personalities seem so polar opposite. That realization comes with some fantastically rich dialogue, and—yes—some incredibly hot and sexy bedroom scenes. Unlike other stories in this genre that I have read, those scenes never seem forced, trite, or shoehorned in to inappropriate spots within the context of the story. They enrich the novel, and by their very nature increase the depth of each of these characters as they come to realize that looks can and are often deceiving, and that sometimes the very thing you want and desire the most is where you’d least expect to find it.If you love a good, deep, opulent love story, where the characters are not mere cardboard cutouts, and bring to the page emotions that will sweep you away, get this novel now. The narrative will catch you up before you realize it, and you’ll be surprised how quickly the entire ‘Greek gods’ trappings become secondary and minor to the overall flow of the work. In fact, if that is a potential turn-off for a reader approaching this novel, remember—looks can be deceiving. And you don’t want to be turned away from this one by that alone. :-)

The style that this story was written was different than what I am used to, but I loved this story nonetheless. Persephone is a goddess who is under the overbearing rule of her mother. She is faced with the dilemma of choosing to do what is expected of her or choosing love. The relationship she shares with her mother is filled with guilt and obligation but the love she experiences with Hades is filled with trust, respect, and empowerment. The dark romance that develops between Persephone and Hades is sexy and captivating. I loved how Persephone is portrayed as a strong willed goddess who is at a crossroads and Hades is portrayed as a sexy god whose duty to his realm is as strong as his fidelity for Persephone.I would recommend this book! I love stories where Persephone is depicted as a strong woman and not a helpless maiden and when the love she shares with Hades is consensual, dark, and true.

Sniffle, sniffle...This tale was simply beautiful. The plot, characters, setting, theme and flow were astounding. I hope you have quit your day job AFTER publishing this gem. I shed tears of joy, not sadness, especially while reading the last two paragraphs. The imagery was so heartfelt and....sigh...perfect. I'll probably think of your tale every fall from now on.Lastly, your writing reminds me of another favorite writer of mine, Anne Rice. Your talent for lush descriptions of characters, emotions and settings reminds me of her novels. To put it simply, you can write your ass off. Please take a bow/curtsy. I applaud you.
