Handel's "Masters of War" is a comprehensive integration of the classical strategic theorists, to include Clausewitz, Sun Zi, Mao, Machievelli, and others.Handel procedes by topics, comparing the different theorists thoughts and the context of each theorist. He meticulously cites every point with extensive use of quotes. He places different classical author's words side by side to highlight parallels and differences. For example, in the discussion of deception, Handel draws on Sun Zi, Thucydides, Clausewitz, and Jomini to demonstrate the similarities and illustrate the differences in the different authors attitudes towards deception. He has a whole chapter for analyzing Corbett and Mahan and their relationship to Clausewitz, Jomini, and Sun Zi.The chapter on military leadership is most relevant, and weighs the merits of the different opinions on the qualities of a leader well. The discussion and comparison of opinions on the role and importance of a staff are thought provoking and balanced.Handel brings all the threads together in the conclusion "Toward a Unified Theory of War". He posits that the biggest difference between the authors is the level of war they focus on, rather than any irreconcilable difference in positions. This a one the best books on strategy I have ever picked up. It gives a great breakdown and comparison of other great strategist such as Clausewitz and Sun Tzu.

I liked his use of direct quotes by the various strategists, but... it uses too many pages for what it is at 400 pages or so in length. It could be called a good scholastic treatise that probably deserves an "A" gradebut for those of us wanting only a summary of the thoughts of each master of war, the writing spent way too much time justifying his point of view (thus too scholastic), so I can't afford the time to read the book. It was not the succinct summary I had hoped for.The non-judgmental use of theory by revolutionaries who justify common murder may wear on your nerves while reading - of course this makes the book politically correct in the modern dumbed down USA scholastic environment. I am glad I tried this book though since I was considering going back to graduate school, again, but now realize that being subjected to so much time reading politically correct jargon and justifications is a waste of my short life.I am trying next: Earle, Edward M. Makers of Modern Strategy: Military Thought From Machiavelli to Hitler. Princeton, N.J.: Princeton Univ. Press, 1943. 553 pp

I liked the book so much I ordered a hardbound edition. Sadly the hardback is a print-to-order version of poor quality paper and print, with the five fold-out color charts now reprinted in B&W, split onto two regular pages each, and almost illegible. For a much higher price for the hardbound I received a much poorer quality edition. I returned it.

Third, you become a productive leader with a developed style and team who produce for you. Forth, you start mentoring others in leadership, and fifth, the pinnacle, you develop and lead leaders!

I have read many of John Maxwell's books, such as "Thinking for a Change" and "Today Matters", as well as "The 21 Indespensible Laws of Leadership". I'm neither gay, liberal, Republican, Democrat, Tea Party or Socialist; I just believe we are all speakers to our united belief of freedom. This document covers it all with very little words. The last amendment was in the 90's; to limit our elected officials from profit without our agreement. Please... lets keep our core beliefs simple and spread the simple belief of freedom close and far.

While some Presidents were not able to get past the 4th Amendment in their transition period briefings prior to taking office, I was able to read thru this glossy hardcover in a matter of hours. It is presented in an ordered, succinct, easy-to-follow format. Senators, Members of Congress and counsel who are “stretched for time,” since annotated versions read in conjunction with the US Code can be burdensome, will find this handy pocket version particularly useful.It also works well when organizations have identified a mid-sized pool of respondent(s), such as a sitting President, that require immediate attention under the 25th Amendment and whose staff and committee members need to easily evaluate a broad spectrum of Constitutional options at a high level. What struck me was the simplicity of the 25th Amendment and it's application to modern (2018) political discourse. I highly recommend this Constitution for everyone to read at least once....especially if you are going to later post your PhD doctoral thesis views via commentary on social media.

I have these Little Books: Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, and Constitution. I keep them in my living room and people pick them up and glance through them, and because they are small they want them. I bought these three as a gift for one of my neighbors who wanted them. I think everyone should have them so they can refer to things from time to time that they may not be familiar with! They are little but have BIG information!

Bought these as a refresher course for us and re-learned many things we had forgotten about the Constitution. The leather like cover is beautiful. The seller had them delivered immediately. Will be back for more, to give as gifts.

great to read what the founding father's thought when building this great republic. their thoughts on what could happen if we are not diligent in keeping true to the Constitution. and now here we are with a runaway president and a do nothing to oppose congress. it is a shame that they don't teach the Constitution in schools anymore. students today think that the president can do anything he wants.. no one to stop it.

Honestly most of the people I know talk about the constitution and have not read it all the way through if ever, and if they’re in school they’ve read it in “sound bites”. For heaven sake get it! Yes, you could spend couple of hundred years read in case law on the constitution, but the Constitution itself is really short, easy to read and this is a nifty & nicely-made little book.

Great little books that hold some of the most important writings in history. These are perfect display pieces, and durable enough to carry on you or in a bag. I display them in my cubical at the office.

This book, at one level, traces the evolution of Anheuser Busch as it grew--and as it was taken over. A part of this picture is the Busch's who assumed leadership--their strengths and weaknesses.Tracing the leadership over time--Adolphous Busch (whose wife was an Anheuser), August Busch, August Busch Jr. (Gussie), August Busch III, and--finally--August Busch IV. The business began after the Busch family moved to the United States from their homeland, one of many Germans coming to the United States. They joined other Germans in producing their German beer after immigrating into the United States--Pabst, Schlitz, Blatz, and so on. The Busch's were almost religious in sticking with their brewing approach, using pure products (as best they could) and taking a longer time than others did with their brewing process. The company took off under August and continued to grow with August, Jr.The latter, often called Gussie, became enamored of nonbeer enterprises, such as the origins of Busch Gardens and developing his homestead (which contained Ulysses Grant's :Hardscrabble" farm. He also became interested in baseball, and purchased the St. Louis Cardinals. As he got older, his leadership became less focused. His son, August III, led the overthrow of his father and became the head of the company. He was hard driving and led the company into a dominant position in the American market. After he retired as active leader of the company, his son, August IV, took over leadership. And an awful choice it was. He drank too much, used drugs, and had little of the clear sense of mission that his father did. In the end, the company became vulnerable and was acquired by InBev. Anheuser Busch disappeared as an independent entity.The book also addresses the evolution of the beer industry in the United States. The original major companies were the Milwaukee businesses (e.g., Schlitz and Pabst) and the St. Louis Anheuser Busch. Over time, Miller emerged as a key competitor. Schlitz, at one point, was a rising competitor--but changed the formula for the beer to save money in production. What a sad tale of a major company dropping out as a player because of one poor decision.All in all, a fine book on beer with a focus on Anheuser Busch.

I grew up in southern Illinois and some of my fondest memories was going to Busch Stadium and watching the Cardinals. The Busch family were icons during that time (1960s). One was always impressed with their immense wealth, excentricities, and flaws. William Knoedelseder does and excellent job chronicalling their beginning throughout their take over by In- Ben. He gives a great deal of information in a compelling manner.There is information about Prohibition, the company's direction and excesses, personal failings and monumental egos. There are enough details to keep anyone's interest. He does an excellent job painting all of the principal players. He paints them warts and all but he also has a warmth for most of them. If you want specific information about the inner workings of the family - it's there. (In fact, you may need a score card of all the children from multiple marriages, cousins, and nephews.) If you want to see the excesses of wealth and the feeling of being "noblessely obliged" - its there. There is a great deal of information regarding competitors that adds to the narrative. There is information about the inner workings of the business. Throughout the narrative there is a tragic component that comes through. And yet through it all the bumble, stumble and persevere to enormous success. In the epilogue, the author compares the efficiency of AB In Bev with the philosophy of the founders. It was sad. Aunheiser Busch was such an integral part of the communities in which they were located and you could see that their absence affected the communities in a number of ways.The Busch's could be tyrannical, arrogant and ruthless at times. But there was a brilliance and love for what they were doing. The quality of the product was paramount. The love of being good at what you did was the motivation not the ledger sheet.It was a very interesting tale. I enjoyed the rise and the fall, the peccadilloes and the successes. Enjoy!
